Burning Down the House

Yesterday was supposed to be a great day, we were now ready to open and set the trap for Puppy (now Luna) since we had her coming to a feeding station.  She had come through 9:36 am, and the plan was to take a portable grill, do a couple of hot dogs, spritz some water on the grill to get vapor and smoke into the air to attract her for dinner.

When I got home and checked the computer to see how it was going, I could not believe my eyes and the messages from Renee.  She burned the whole feeding station down.  I was mortified!

I didn't even ask.  What was the point.  High winds, I believe, but who grills without a lid or watching the grill in high winds with a tiny grill on the ground?  I will say no more.

She couldn't even get home, her keys had melted.  Thankfully, the trail cam and trap did not get burned or  melt in the fire, but now we were beside ourselves thinking how we were going to start again with a new feeding station and get her to come to it.

Checking the cam this morning, look who showed up at the original feeding station!  For some reason she didn't eat what was put out, maybe the scorched ground freaked her out, but she did come back again today!  So we start again and hope that one day we come to the trap and she will be in it!

On a lighter side, here is the afghan I was telling you about.  Zac in Maine laughed when he bought it on Ebay and saw it was mine, and I laughed when I saw he bought it. We both like the same afghans and he has bought many.

So with all this stress of the dog, arguing with the tree service that still has not come to split our wood from two months ago, I now have caught what Bob was sick with all week, so I guess it's my turn to be the sick one this week (or maybe I'll beat it!!)

All Consuming Search & Rescue

DAY 17:  Still searching for "Puppy".  We were able to borrow a trail cam, which Renee mounted on a post where she has seen her laying.

This morning checking the cam, Renee was in her work clothes, but has to climb fences to get to this spot.  She slipped and fell into a ravine and sprained her knee, ended up in urgent care, but she's a country girl, and crutches won't stop her!

We were excited to see the burgers had been eaten, but not the buns!  Must be a chow!

YES!! There she is on the cam and she still has her leash on.  She came to eat at 1:59 pm.

DAY 18:  Bacon left on top of Renee's shorts so she gets used to her scent.

There she is!  1:52, right on schedule.  A Humane Officer in Lancaster, PA is working with me and giving instruction on how to trap her.  She did not show up today on Day 19, a little worried.  Tomorrow we start grilling hot dogs and setting up the trap to catch her now that we've established a feeding station.  Fingers crossed, I'm exhausted!!

SUPER BLOOD WOLF MOON 2019!

Yep, stayed up past midnight to see the blood moon, and it was worth it!  An Irish coffee helped!

Power went out around 8 am Sunday and came back on around 9 that night.  High winds took down trees (what else) and took down power lines.

By 12:20 the moon had turned orange, but the bitter temps and wind made for a blurry shot.  A tripod was needed in this situation.

What was nice is I could see the moon in the living room skylight and knew when a change occurred for me to run out for a split second and get a shot.  It was well worth the effort, the sky was beautiful, clear as a bell, millions of stars and best of all, the BLOOD WOLF MOON!

Renee and her boyfriend have been in the field this weekend trying to trap Puppy.  Yesterday I had a hard time communicating with no power and iffy cell service.  She brought a drone with her and they spotted Puppy only once today, but three times on Saturday.  She brought 20 cheeseburgers and the trap has been moved to where she now is one mile from the shelter.

Renee saw this tree and believes it's a sign.  I sure hope so.  Going on 12 days of search and rescue with probably many more to come.  I hate Puppy is out in this bitter cold.  I have raised $780 in funds for this effort.  People are being very generous, and I hope Renee doesn't give up.

First sighting on Saturday took Renee by surprise, she was so close!

Puppy heard her car and came to the edge of the woods, but ran when Renee got out of the car, but I think she knows Renee means food.  That is our only hope to catch her.  At least it will be in the 60s by Wednesday, and that can't come too soon!

I'm Impressed!

When I find these afghans and list them for sale, I have an idea of the room they'll end up in once bought.  Like this candy colored beauty I would expect to be in a little girl's room . . .

. . . not as a cardigan coat!

Some of the buyers are so funny, they send me photos out of the blue wanting me to see what they have done with the item they've bought.

She was hoping I had another because her friend loved it and wanted one.

I don't have anything like this unique afghan, but sent her photos of others I think would make a nice coat cardigan.  She really is talented and that really is a nice coat!

Week 2 of my rescue nightmare!  I now have Lucy from Memphis in a new foster home close to where I live and she is loving life!  Amelia, the little min-pin is not happy without Lucy, and I hate that, but there is not much I can do on that front.  She is in a good home and I hope one day forgets about Lucy.

Lucy with Norma her new foster mom.  Feeling right at home on the sofa.

A big smile.

It's now been 8 days and Puppy is still at large.  I was on the phone all day yesterday trying to find the right tracker to hire, but at $145 an hour, travel expenses and motels, and with only $530 raised, that wasn't looking like an option.  Then a girl named Renee contacted me, a rescue girl who lives right by the shelter and has a team to set up traps, hounds to track, and four wheelers to search the woods!  I have found my trackers!  And as I was writing this at 9:00 tonight, Renee contacted me that Puppy was seen today!  I think we're going to capture her, it's a matter of time!

Beautiful Skies - Stressful Week

At the boathouse, colorful skies like I have never seen.  I didn't have my camera, so we had to use Bob's camera, and it didn't even come close as to how beautiful the clouds and turquoise sky was for only a few minutes, then it was gone and night fell.

The week started with a rescue friend asking for help for two senior dogs in Memphis that needed to get to NC or they were going to the shelter.  The min-pin is 14 years old, so I said yes.  Had the transport all set for Saturday, then the threat of an ice storm, messed that up and I had to start from scratch for a Friday run, but with a lot of work, it was accomplished.  The dogs spent the night at my house, then I took them to foster the next day.

Sadly, the chow is not acclimating to her new home and does not like the other dogs, so we are frantically trying to find a new home, which will not be easy.

This is Lucy, 10 year old chow mix, and she is not happy with her new home.  She is a sweet dog, but does not like Bruno Mars, the boxer mix.

We also got Sasha out of a shelter on the NC coast and into her foster home, she is very happy.  Sadly, "Puppy" who is 9 months old escaped at the shelter and we now have traps set and I am working with a tracker from Asheville trying to capture her.  She is feral and scared.  This could take a while.  Stressful is an understatement!

As for this week, we will be working on the dog problems from last week then I hope to get back to scraping and painting and selling on Ebay.  I want the 68 degrees and sunshine that we had last week back or a trip to the beach!!!

New Year's Day

Finally, a day without rain and 65 degrees!  I walked out in the morning, and there was a beautiful rainbow, but by time I ran back to the house to get the camera, it was gone, but this gold was covering the trees.

Spent the day working on prepping the vegetable garden for spring.  Lettuce is growing good!

Dark Blue Larkspur that I used to scatter in Georgia has to be grown in trays because there are too many critters that eat my plants! ARGH

And my camellia has just burst into bloom!

Got a Christmas photo of Panda's brother in Georgia named Gus.  There is one other brother, but we lost track of him. (Gus on the right)

I know I'm biased, but I do think Panda is cuter than Gus lol!
