The "Princess" Tree

Now named the Princess tree . . .
because just like Princess, the undercoat is white with a caramel topping.  This tree probably started out pure white, but with age it has developed a lovely beige patina, and that's what I like about it.
This is Princess, one of our foster dogs.  See the resemblance?
The tree skirt is actually a little girl's skirt I picked up years ago at the Gap.  It is brushed velvet and cost $48 . . . but I picked it up for $4.99 and knew I would be able to use it one day.
And so the red and white theme came to fruition, and I remembered the velvet cardinal tree topper I had stashed away in the basement.
So out came all the old wooden ornaments from my log cabin days, many of them with a cardinal theme.
It's actually ironic that cardinals became the theme of this year's tree as the live cardinals around the house have been driving Bob and I crazy pecking at the windows and sitting on our cars' mirrors attacking themselves thinking another male is in their territory.  This has been going on for months, but they are a pretty bird even if they are a little bit off mentally!

The Princess tree lit, twinkle lights and all
Now for the rest of the house and trying to put together a red and white table theme.

The Decorated Tree

I found a wonderful new blog www.thedecoratedtree.blogspot.com
The author of the blog turned it into a book called The Decorated Tree, but it is a "handmade" book and cost $140, so I opted to just look at most of the photos from the book on his blog.  He is from Atlanta and very creative.  He loves Christmas trees as much as I do.  I can't wait for this weekend to come so I can begin decorating my own tree, a vintage feather tree I was so lucky to spy at the Goodwill for $15!  I went to the Hickory Flat Library to vote early and since the library is right next door to the Goodwill I popped in late on Friday night, and there it was!  The manager had just marked it down from $25, said she wanted it to have a good home . . . well, it does!!!

The Story of LuChen "Foxy"

11 Alive News aired the story of LuChen/Foxy last night and you can view it on Chap's Chow Rescue's Facebook Page
Another great story giving us lots of  PR for future chow adoptions!  This is a big weekend for the rescue.  Tomorrow a man from Knoxville is coming to meet Roman and Princess, Lee, Taz and Darcy.  Sunday is the big road trip for Zeus going to his new home in Merritt Island, Florida, where my aunt lives!  All dogs are now in foster homes, and once the holidays are over, we will have our kennels back and can start pulling more from shelters.  As for Bamboo, the little old man, we found a mass on his belly which is scaring away potential adopters, so looks like he may be mine!

Our Rescue's story on Chen will air tonight.  For those of you who are like me and don't have TV, I was so happy Jerry (cameraman who did the story) sent the link to Amy and she passed it on!  This is great PR for our rescue!

Carol, Chen & Ben, the proud new owners!
11 Alive News was on the scene of one of our adoptions at the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.  Chen is going to Ohio!  His new owner flew his plane down to pick him up.  We all met there and watched with excitement.  Poor Lise had a tough time letting him go.  That's the hard part of fostering.  Wish all of our dogs could go to such good homes!  See the Video!

Later that afternoon, the Story of LuChen.  A 13 year old black chow we had in the rescue since April, was found by her owner seven months later and reunited!  She got her when she was eight weeks old.  Trunetta and her mother came from Duluth to Briarcliff to be reunited.  Another story that will be on 11 Alive!
