CAPTURED!!!

At 4 am this morning, we caught Luna!  She went to the trap at 1 am and someone had called animal control and the same officer that chased her three weeks ago three miles onto the median came and chased her again.  Sam was not happy and asked if I would bail her out of jail after she cussed out the ACO, I said gladly!

The ACO said we would never catch her, then three hours later Luna came to the trap and it closed and she was not happy.  Sam is going to send the video of how angry she was when she gets home tonight.  I wish I knew how to get this to the ACO so she could eat her own words.

A really nice DOT man came to help.  This is Susan who had been helping us set the trap the last week.  She got to meet Luna before Sam left town with her.

Sam took her to Charlotte to my friend Tracy who will be fostering her.  Dirty and tired, but not mean or trying to bite, she was just scared, but I think she is happy to be safe now and off that highway.

The phone hasn't stopped ringing this morning, tons of messages and congrats, everyone telling me to take a vacation, the chow rescue community is celebrating today!  Almost two months later and $3000 in costs, this is one lucky chow chow!

Tracy already has her eating out of her hand.

Once Luna is settled, I will be going to Tracy's to meet her!

Spring in Tryon

You know it's spring when the roadside flower stands appear!  Stopped for a bouquet for myself and one for my neighbor who has the flu, along with a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup and chocolate chip cookies,  Jewish penicillin and American penicillin!

Another sign, 15 new baby goats, and the milk is flowing!  The chow chows are happy once again!

Huggy is pretty happy, too!

Finally some sunny warm days.  Renters back at the boathouse.

Each year a new floral surprise, something I didn't plant appears, such as these tiny iris.

The afghans keep coming . . .

. . . and the afghans keep going!

As I write tonight, Sam of Pure Gold and Susan who has been supplying Luna's trap with food are boots on ground.  They spared me the trip back today.  Luna has gone in the trap two days, this morning at 2 am and 4 am, so Sam drove from VA to NC to put the trap door in place.

The girls have a long night ahead of them sitting on the side of I-95 watching Luna. Once in the trap, she will be on her way to Tracy in Charlotte and I will be headed to Tracy's.  Everyone is so excited tonight we're not going to get much sleep.  I have raised $2,501 and spent six weeks of  working on this from morning till night, and I can't wait for the reward . . . Luna off of the highway!

Back From Fayette-NAM

It's actually called Fayetteville, but that gives you an indication how crummy this town is.  Been in a crummy hotel for four days in a crummy town with crummy weather, out on I-95 stalking Luna and setting a trap.

Brianna the tracking dog was with us the whole time, but was not able to lure Luna out.

We were able to construct the self-closing trap in the middle of the median.  Hated being out there, traffic was horrific and was worried a State trooper may see us since it is illegal to be out there and set this trap according to animal control.  Trap is watched by camera 24/7.  Bob said he would bail me and Sam out, but didn't want to identify us at the morgue. Very funny Bob!  Only got four hours sleep a night, lots of coffee!  Needless to say, I am out of whack.  Come home to all my bird feeder poles bent, some missing.  Thanks Mr. Bear!
Oh!  And my friend Cathy in Arkansas sent me this little stuffed Poppa!

Moss Annie

I was shocked when I saw on the Preservation NC web page that Annie Martin "Moss Annie" was coming to do a lecture at the neighboring town's library.  I had bought her book in 2015 when it came out, my chance to get it signed!

She was a petite little thing, and what a good speaker!  I could have listened to her all night.  The turnout was great, maybe 100 people.  She is on her way to Japan to do a moss garden there, which is a big honor.

I took a sample of the moss growing in my front yard to find out if it was really moss or lichen and turns out it is Thuidium moss.

This is my front yard, and with the warmer weather my moss is starting to turn greener, but I would like the whole front to be moss and I actually learned the technique for spreading the moss, which is on my list to do.

What a three weeks this has been.  I raised close to $2,000 and now have hired Sam Connelly from Pure Gold Pet Trackers who arrived from Virginia last night and actually got to see Luna up on Hwy. I-95 eating a dead deer, which I now have DOT removing today!!

Sam uses goldens to track, hence the name Pure Gold, but no tracking needed for Luna, we just have to get her in this trap.

Sam has 16 years experience and is very successful, but very expensive and if she catches Luna, it will all be worth it.  Bob suggested she get a deer leg before they haul it off to put in her Mega Trap, gross, but could work!

So the past two days it has been summer here, but now the wind has kicked up and a cold front is coming in.  Even my snakes were out sunbathing. Why this one wanted to come inside, I don't know, but when I opened the door and he was there, I gently picked up his tail and pointed him in a different direction.

The bad thing when we get summer days in the middle of winter, everything gets buds, which will be ruined for spring with a hard cold.  Daffodils are blooming all over, mine just have buds.   Even the bluebirds are nesting in my boxes.

All of Mindy's goats are giving birth this week.  Everything is going crazy!

Still can't shake this cold, probably due to the stress of Luna, but standing out in the sun has felt really good!
