Gardeners' Alert!

Big news this week for gardeners, the seasonal zones have changed for most and can be seen on Margaret's blog if you scroll to the bottom of the first page.
This could be the reason for our daffodils blooming in January!  Sunny and 70 degrees tomorrow . . . time to get a tan!

Love Brewing Company

My nephew Dave is starting up his own business as a brewing company.  This is a sample of his chocolate stout.
This is a Berliner Weiss aged with raspberries, a sour wheat beer made to resemble framboise.  Best of luck to Dave in his business venture.  I may have to switch from wine to beer to support him!  Better yet, maybe I can grow his hops if the land in Virginia doesn't work out!

Bob's First Trial in Asheville

Bob tried his first case in Asheville this week and won, good thing!  The courthouse is being renovated, and only the first three floors are complete, and the following photos show how beautiful the walls are inside the building.

The ceilings are just as beautiful as the walls.
He spent his nights close to the courthouse at Sweet Peas Hostel which sits above Lexington Avenue Brewery where he had samplings of fresh brewed Stout, a place my nephew will definitely visit when he comes to "Beer City USA" since he has hopes of owning his own brewery in the future.  He already has his logo and name for his brewery, "Love Brew" (I hope I got that right, sorry, Dave!)  Bob had dinner at an up and coming vegan restaurant Plant Looking forward to trying their smoked hummus!

Our Hummingbird Has Been Banded!

Prissy the Rufous Hummingbird

Julia Elliott, the "bird nerd" from GA Hummers, a licensed bander came at 8 am this morning to catch and band "Prissy" our Rufous hummingbird.
The cage was set on the platform to the left with the feeder inside, and in just minutes Prissy flew in and the door closed behind her.  Julia is taking her out of the cage in this photo
She put little Prissy in a netted bag and took her to her SUV to be measured and weighed
She was taken from the netted bag and put in a stocking "nest" to keep her still and warm.  Here her length is being measured
Here she is measuring her beak.  It was noticed her top beak had been broken but had healed
Look how sweet and well-behaved she is!
Looking at the markings on her chest.  Bob and I thought she was a he and we had named him "Prancer" for showing up in December
Julia gave Prissy a drink before letting her go
Just one last close-up photo before releasing
The name Prissy is very fitting because in one second she will be "Gone With the Wind"!
