Snake Sightings

                                          Wish I could take this girl with me, she keeps order among the rodents in the basement. She fell out of the ceiling the other night in a piece of insulation, and the dogs went crazy, but they would not touch her.  Found a snake skin in the woods as long as her, so maybe she just had a body facial! Photos of the skin did not come out and something hauled it off in the middle of the night.  This is a good snake and she has lived with us for many years.

Rain, Rain go Away!

I must admit, one good thing has come from all this rain, and it's not the flooded basement where all my hooked rugs were ready to be moved and got soaked or the soggy blackberries that are just getting ripe or the split tomatoes or mophead hydrangeas so heavy they're laying on the ground.

It's this old door that I've had for probably 20 years that was covered in thick white enamel paint that last year I put out along the fence to keep Princess and Panda from getting into it at the fence line.  One day I noticed the paint peeling and a beautiful robin's egg blue paint underneath. I'm sure it's at least 100 years old.

Every time I go to see Roman and Princess, I scrape just a little bit off.  There are some really tough spots, but with the rain this week I'm sure they'll get easier, too.  I do have the missing piece of the door.  Just thinking of how I can use this in our new home.  To think this was going to be cut in pieces and burned in the fireplace. Close call!!

Floods for the Fourth, Not Fireworks!

Here we go again!  My once trickling stream is now a full-fledged gushing river!!

A Great Unexpected Saturday at Zonolite Park!

Zonolite Park is just a few blocks down from the kennels where the rescue dogs are boarded.  On my way down to the city on Saturday, I stopped to get a turtle in the road that was hit by a car to take to the pond at Zonolite.  To my surprise, there were so many people there for a cleanup project.  I got on the phone to Jacqui, told her to get the "adopt me" vests for the dogs and let's get walking, maybe one will be adopted!

Another group that was there, United by Blue, came all the way from my hometown, Philadelphia, to clean up the river.  It was fun talking to them about familiar places in Philly. I told them to look for my nephew's home-brewed beer under the label Love Brewing Company.

This is Susan.  She had just returned from a trip to Africa where she works with an elephant rescue, and since I was walking a rescue dog, we got to talking.  She is coming with her friend David this coming Saturday to walk dogs and be a new volunteer!  The more dog walkers the better!

This is Tommy, one of the rescue dogs still waiting to be adopted.  The video below is of Tommy with one of the "smaller" volunteers.  He's a pup, so he loves everyone!

Sally Sears was there having fun with Tommy, too.  She is a retired newsperson that spearheads a lot of what goes on at Zonolite Park.  She is a very nice person and wants to help the rescue any way she can.

Later in the day I got Tang to the river.  He loves taking a swim, very unusual for a chow!

This is Samson who Jacqui pulled from the same shelter the same day we went to get Ginseng who went to TN.  It was his last day on the planet and Jacqui just could not let that happen, so he was being boarded with the other rescues for the past two weeks. 

Who would have guessed that Samson's new family would be at the park doing cleanup!  The next day he was on his way to Kennesaw to be with his new family and they just love him.  All in all it was a very productive day.  One adoption, two new volunteers and Sally will let us know when other events happen at Zonolite so that we can bring even more dogs!! Of course, I never get a photo of Jacqui, she's always on the move with a dog, and I'm always behind the camera, but it really is us down there doing all the hard leg work!!

Jacqui's 50th

Took Jacqui on the garden tour for her birthday present.  It wasn't as good as previous tours, but the weather was really nice and cool and made it pleasant to walk around.

Next weekend was Jacqui's birthday party.  Her mom flew down from Boston to celebrate with her.  This is a photo of Pat in front, Natalie on the left, Jacqui and me.  Her mom is taking the photo.

This is Jacqui and Natalie who was instrumental financially in getting Shelby and Zena vetted in order to be re-homed from the domestic situation Jacqui was working on and got us involved in.  Thanks for that, Jacqui (lol)!  She gave Natalie a basket of biscuits from her new business "Kashi's Kitchen" which has a facebook page, so "like" it when you visit the page.  Jacqui is baking hand-pressed, wheat-free biscuits with cute names such as PoPo's Sweet Potato Puff's and Chutter Chunk Cookies.  Love the names!

This is Lise hiding behind Jacqui's mom's iPad.  She's 80 and has an iPad.  Go Jacqui's mom!

Jacqui is so popular she had three birthday cakes.

Lise made the organic, sugar and wheat free Kashi cake, and for being so healthy, I must say it was delicious!

This is little Dawn waiting for something yummy to fall off the table.  She thinks we don't see her hiding down there.

And here he is, Jacqui's main man (sorry Sam) Kashi.  In the end, it's all about Kashi!  You would have thought the bday party was for him with everyone fawning over this handsome devil.  I was happy to be part of Jacqui's big day!

Jackpot! Found My Goat Farm!

Was paying $10.26 a quart at Fido's Market, now paying $10 a gallon!

And it is only 35 minutes from my home

This is Mark, the chief milker with my six-gallon order ready to go.  His mom is from Denmark, and he was leaving for Denmark today to visit his grandparents for two weeks.  Can I go??
