Progress!

The fallen tree has been cut into pieces.  Next step is splitting and then hauling to the wood shed.  This is going to be a LOT of work!

If only it was on flat land and not the side of a hill.

For some reason, Lord Roman loves sniffing around this mess.

With him standing next to the pieces, you can get an idea how huge this tree was. Roman is a 70 lb. dog, not a small guy.

I counted 57 rings, but I'm sure it's a lot older than that.

In rescue this week:  Pyr/Chow brothers William and Harry being transported from TN to Gulfport, MS to my friend George.

The first driver did not follow my instructions, and needless to say, Harry escaped and what a fiasco.  Animal control was called to come with a loop to try and snag him.  They tried luring him into a yard by walking William, no luck.  Animal control was called again and actually was successful and got Harry back in the car.  This took hours, and poor George had to drive an extra four hours to meet the girls and get the dogs.

This is Tina and Tami after capturing Harry and having a rest on the porch.

George got them in his van and arrived home very late last night.  He is my "unofficial" trainer who will be working with the boys who are unsocialized so they can go to a farm in Upstate NY.

Sweet, gorgeous dogs that did not have a good owner.  George will work his magic.  Taking today off to do some gardening, not answering calls!

Valentine's Day

Woke up to the hugest flock of blackbirds I have ever seen.  I watched for what seemed like five minutes before getting my camera.  This is the tail end of the flock.

Lots of new blooms.

A friend's birthday, gifts for a "bath in the forest".

Bath tea bags made with pine, fir, and redwood.

Pine soap that looks so pretty she may not want to use it.  All courtesy of entreprenuers on Etsy.

Remember T.V. trays?  Another friend's birthday coming up, a little table to take outside to hold a drink.

Rescue of the week (more like the month).  Fluffy came to the shelter beginning of January, was adopted for three days, bit the landlord, tried to bite the uncle, was put on Craigslist for free, no takers, returned to the shelter, now quarantined because of biting, now rescue only, no person could adopt.  Debra Harmon and I worked tirelessly on this boy.

We found a rescue to pull him and my friend and neighbor Kelly is adopting him!!

Happy Valentine's Day

TIMBERRRRR!!!!!!

So I just get in from driving Cocoa to the SC/GA state line, a dog traveling from VA to TX, sit down with a nice glass of wine, some P.F. Changs I picked up on the way home, pop in the disks I got from the library of The Good Wife, and BOOM!  Bob and I jump up and run out to make sure the dogs are okay, and there it is.

We now have a better view of the mountain from the living room, but I LOVED that big old dead tree and so did the pileated woodpeckers.

I guess we'll have firewood for the next century, but now we have to find someone to cut it up, who knows what that will cost.

It took down a good tree next to it, too.

It's enormous, and they just don't look as big standing erect.

Glad we dodged the blizzard bullet with all the trees and plants that are in bloom.  Still in the 70s and expected to stay that way.

Saturday we went to Knoxville to pick up Baby, a lab from Memphis, TN to take to rescue in Charlotte.  Bob's favorite bookstore is there, so we made the three hour trip up.  I had not been to Knoxville, it was a pretty drive, no reason to go again.

This is Baby, and she loves everybody.

Dancing with Bob in the pasture.

I was able to throw in baking a chocolate roll for Stu's birthday.  Feeling a bit stressed, so many asking for help in rescue, I think I'll hide out next week!

Also managed to get to the Frog & Swan tag sale and found some nice little items for my shop.  Do you see a color theme here?  Work starts Wednesday on the boathouse!  I'm excited.

A Cupboard for the Boathouse

Finally!   A small cupboard to store supplies at the boathouse.  I have been looking for years for something small and light enough to carry down those steep stairs, and this showed up at the Habitat for Humanity store!

Maybe PA Dutch?  Maybe something that would have been in Lucy Ricardo's kitchen?

Took days of scrubbing to get it clean.

We took it over to the boathouse this weekend.  The painting and staining are finished, and now we have to get things back in place and paintings on the walls before I can take some photos.

As for the birdbath base, I decided to make a side table out of it for my seating area in the courtyard, and it turned out better than I could have imagined.

I took one of my stepping stones, slapped on a little concrete, and wallah!

Finds this weekend, a vintage cut glass kerosene base, sparkles in the sun!

Two cut glass ceiling fixtures, one of a kind!

Just don't know where all these vintage things come from in this small town!

On the rescue front, Waha, a husky I transported from Arkansas to Illinois was adopted yesterday, and I received this photo from the rescue.  As I speak, working on getting a lab mix named Baby from Memphis to Charlotte.
