Cumberland Island 2011

Love Story

Watching the mini series Love Story of JFK Jr. and Caroline Bessette got me thinking about our trip to Cumberland Island and if I had lost those photos in Hurricane Helene along with all the others.

I did, but back in 2011 when we went there, I did a post on this blog. That's one really nice thing about a blog just for yourself, you can look back, you have your photos and it is similar to a diary where you can read what went on.

My kind of beach. Not a soul in sight.

We didn't stay at the Greyfield Inn, the only inn on the island where the Kennedys stayed, but we got a nice tour.

This was our accommodations lol, and all I can remember is how hot it was, I couldn't sleep in my tent and when we were setting up there were snakes hanging in the trees. I learned not to go to the coast in the summer anymore, always winter.

Some of the wild horses on the island

The African slave chapel where they were married. In the series one of the cousins says "This looks like the unibomber's shack", but I found it to be very quaint and I could see why they would want to get married here.

Back in the day, they were a couple I enjoyed following. It was a very sad day when the news came they were gone.

Spring Fever

All the bulbs from last year's Christmas gift from my aunt are starting to come in, daffodils and hyacinths already blooming.

My tomato seedlings and some flowers are liking the heat mats.

I was so nervous because it took over a month for my torenia Suzie Wong seeds from Pam in Palm Beach to show up! They are just specs, but they are alive!!!
With the storms and other interruptions, it took me a little time to get to BB Barnes in Asheville, my favorite nursery to find the right thank you gift for Pam.
How fitting to have a little mermaid planter for Palm Beach!
Should be arriving soon, I hope she likes it.
My coleus cuttings are looking pretty good, too. The amaryllis that my aunt sent is green with a little sprout, but it never came back in full. Those are tough.
Around town the planters are dressed for spring and Easter. Love this time of year!
